A swimmer needs to practice every day, which is why the occasional swimming pool resurfacing could be so devastating to an athlete. But while conventional methods can take entire days, now there is a far better way to do things, one which doesn’t even require hired help.

That’s correct, do-it-yourself swimming pool resurfacing is now achievable thanks to the miracles of modern technology. It is a straightforward procedure which will have the pool ready for business in a few fairly short hours, a real godsend for swimmers who need to work hard daily to maintain their fitness. Not just swimmers who need the practice time will benefit, of course.

To have a pool without water in it is pretty depressing, least of which is because of the fact that pools in need of renovation do not generally look too good anyway.

Needless to say, it’s possible to do your swimming pool resurfacing in the fall, after all of the barbecues and other poolside gatherings. But in any case, it is now a fairly simple matter involving just a few hours, so why spends hundreds or even thousands to hire others?

Swimming pools have been around since ancient times. The Great Bath at Mohenjo-Daro around five thousand years ago was covered by a tar-based sealant. Heated pools were known to the ancient Romans who could afford them. But it seemed to have been the British of the mid-nineteenth century who most popularized swimming pools, and ever since then resurfacing has been one of the primary maintenance tasks.

For the individual homeowner, modern advances have made such upkeep much easier. Readily available in the form of a gel coating that can be applied to gunite, conrete, or fiberglass surfaces, modern resurfacing is now just a once-in-a-while type of chore, with each application lasting up to thirty years or more!

The 1099 Form is filed on behalf of independent contractors in the United States every year as required by law. Independent contractors are individuals or corporations that offer goods or services to another person or corporation within the terms of a contract or verbal agreement.

Those people or organizations that make use of independent contractors need to file a 1099 Form for every contractor compensated an amount of six hundred dollars or more during a single year. As may be imagined, it is possible for thousands of such contractors to be hired, and so those who make use of more than two hundred and fifty must file all their forms electronically, that is almost always generated by software.

In addition to a 1099 Form, the 1096 is also required when it comes to paper copies sent through the mail. Payees typically use the information on their 1099s to complete their own tax returns, and will most likely use the Combined Form 1099 that records all the independent contracting they’ve completed for the year.

Generally speaking, however, taxpayers aren’t required to attach a 1099 to their own federal income tax returns except under certain circumstances. Guidelines concerning 1099 forms are to be found in IRS Publication 1220.

Use of the 1099 has become very controversial in the current financial recession as more and more employers seek to save money by classifying an ever greater part of their workforce as independent contractors. The advantages to the employer in savings are essentially passed onto the worker, whose take-home or net earnings will take a substantial hit relative to that of a regular employee. However the practice has becoming increasingly widespread in the American economy today because really few candidates can afford to complain or hold out for a better job offer in such recessionary times.

Soundproofing walls usually indicates the use of soundproofing drywall, a unique kind of insulation product created to damper noise. Soundproofing refers to any means of reducing sound pressure by employing noise reduction and noise absorption.

The former term involves blocking the passage of sound, usually by means of prolonged distances and the use of obstacles along the path of a sound. The latter operates by transforming the sound itself, typically through the suppression of characteristics like resonance and reverberation.

Cheap soundproofing has traditionally been a misnomer, as the technologies employed are usually state-of-the-art: after all, few have the money for a nusiance that is usually considered part of the price of living in modern day society. But recent advances have made it possible for some true “bang-for-the-buck” bargains, specifically with regards to windows.

The main focus of residential soundproofing plans is the windows. Unless building from scratch, the windows will be the most practical point of focus, as it presents the most cost-efficient opportunities. For starters, specially developed curtains are available that use honeycomb-like air chambers to dampen sounds. Then there are double-pane windows, as well as the installation of a second, or interior, window.

But if you’re due for a renovation, or are newly constructing, be sure to check out the new soundproofing technologies built-into modern sheetrock specially designed to dampen noise. These products save not only money but floorspace as well, fully replacing traditional techniques involving resilient channels and mass-loaded vinyl.

Such innovative drywall meet all of the usual safety and performance standards that govern their regular cousins on the market, and are available in common sizes and thicknesses. Plus, despite their added capabilities, they are just as simple to use. Residential or commercial, soundproof drywalls usher in a new era of noise reduction and elimination.

The Mediterranean Diet is one of the most recent and popular ways of losing weight, and it’s based on one of the most ancient ways of eating anywhere in the world. So named because of its origins around the Mediterranean region, the Mediterranean Diet today is usually said to reflect the healthy culinary habits traditional to Greece in particular, where salads predominate and any meat is grilled, essentially never fried.

Like much of Greek cuisine, the Mediterranean Diet focuses on dark leafy vegetables, fresh fruit, and high-fiber beans. Fats and protein comes from cheese, grilled meats and seafood, and of course olive oil.

Yogurt also forms a staple of this diet, as does nuts and grains. Such foods are encouraged by most doctors as immunity-boosting and cancer-fighting, cutting heart disease and diabetes risks substantially and almost immediately.

With these foods, one normally feels a lot more satisfied and less likely to binge-eat, some studies show. An important part of this Mediterranean or Greek way of eating involves significantly smaller portions, which are also shared. But take care: a few classics of Greek cuisine can be very fattening, too, for example the popular spanakopita, or spinach pie, which is loaded with butter and can contain as many calories as a bacon cheeseburger!

All in all, however, consuming in a Mediterranean manner is generally recognized by study after study as having significant advantages. Little wonder, then, that everybody from sedentary couch potatoes to competitive athletes follow this diet so enthusiastically! Of course, the best diet is the one that you’ll be able to actually stick with while helping you accomplish your goals, and the Mediterranean variety is no do-it-all miracle on its own. Depending on your specific circumstances, you might also need to augment proper nutrition with adequate exercise and rest. But there’s no better-tasting first step than some grilled and sautéed Greek staple to get you moving forward!

Rhinestones are diamond simulants or imitations made of rock crystal, glass, or even acrylic. As the name suggests, a rhinestone used to be rock accumulated from along the River Rhine. Eighteenth-century Alsatian jeweler Georg Friedrich Strass was the first to coat glass with metallic powder in this kind of a way as to simulate diamonds. We’ve come a long way since then, with some producers even able to reproduce the sparkling effects of a genuine diamond.

Rhinestones are found anywhere a diamond would be, from apparel to jewellery. They’re primarily used by those who cannot afford real diamonds, but musical celebrities have elevated the status of wearing them. Personalities as varied as Liberace and Elvis Presley have worn it so much that they are now widely associated with it, and even caricatured that way.

The diamond simulant, however, is no cheap thing, inexpensive only when compared to the real thing. The gemological characteristics desired are usually matched (though never all of them simultaneously in any one material), making the simulant a valuable object in its own right.

One of the largest producers of rhinestones in the world is the Austrian concern Swarovski, which has a tradition of manufacturing fine crystal products such as miniatures and chandeliers. From 2004 through 2009, it was a Swarovski creation that served as the star atop New York City’s famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

Preciosa is a Czech company that’s responsible for most of the other rhinestones in the world, with a process that uses only about thirty percent lead in order to minimize refraction.

Other special coatings and coating processes are utilized to create crystal rhinestones that exhibit diamond-like traits for example rainbows. Like Swarovski, Preciosa virtually makes sculptures, jewellery, and the like. Indeed, the former Austro-Hungarian Empire of the Hapsburgs host most of the fine rhinestone makers in the world.

Green energy. You hear about it all the time nowadays. The U.S. needs it. China is getting ever more involved with it. Green energy. But what does it all mean? Our newspapers tell us that it is the wave of the future, the only way forward. Yet nothing is happening in this nation, where most green technologies have been invented, and it’s China that seems poised to dominate this industry of the 21st Century.

So what makes for green energy, and why is it so crucial? The term is more accurately referred to, technically speaking, as sustainable energy, energy that meets present needs with out compromising the environment upon which future generations will also depend.

To be regarded as sustainable typically means to be renewable in such a way as wind, solar, and water-generated energy is. Conventional fission power, or nuclear, power is technically a green form of energy though many environmentalists believe that its potential hazard far outweighs the advantages to be derived.

Moreover, disposable of spent nuclear fuel rods is a major challenge, with a high likelihood of leagage in most scenarios. Now how has China gotten into the issue? Well, it’s not just the world’s fastest-growing economy, but also its fastest-growing polluter, rivaling the United States.

It also happens to be the largest market for eco-friendly technologies and, as the “workshop of the world” also the single largest manufacturer of all the hardware involved. And so any conversation on anything eco-friendly must, in the end, focus on the role of China.

But what is China’s position in all of this? As it is always been: driven by necessity. With the world’s largest population living only on a mere fraction of its arable land, the nation is highly sensitive to all kinds of issues related to the environment, energy policy, and economic growth. Going green, China’s leaders recognize, is the best chance they’ve got to not only survive in the post-industrial world but also to prosper.

Gun safes are essential and usually required by law. They prevent access to firearms and ammunition. Hardlier models will prevent damage as well, for example in the case of fire or flood. Some kinds of safes use hi-tech electronic locks while excellent old-fashioned mechanical ones are found on most. Interestingly, it is this latter type of lock that’s reputed to possess the highest reliability.

The gun safes of the past had been crafted with good looks in mind more than anything else, but their primary duty these days is as described above. As a component of modern-day security concerns, many are designed to really blend in with their environment and be as inconspicuous as possible, an ironic complete about-face for a class of furniture that was once meant to be shown off.

Old-fashioned designs are still available, of course, though often with added security features in a nod to the times. As mentioned previously, firearms safety is really a legal matter now, and many gun racks and safes are even bolted down to avoid tipping over, particularly when empty (since the heaviest part is usually the door).

Gun possession is highly politicized and controversial within the United States, and one of the best ways for American enthusiasts to vouchsafe their remaining rights is to demonstrate common sense for safety and security, which well-made safes and racks help them do.

It may rankle, but as a result of increasing support for gun control in this country, owners are automatically enlisted in a public relations campaign of sorts. Image is key since facts and figures are “all over the place” and may be utilized to buttress either position.

For example, while the FBI reported that ten thousand murders have been committed by firearms throughout 2005, a New England Journal of Medicine article in 1992 seemed to suggest that guns also deter or stop crime millions of times a year as well.

As one of the most promising platforms to have emerged at the turn of the century, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was initially greeted with widespread derision as a Johnny-Come-Lately to the nine billion-dollar videogaming industry (which is today worth many multiples of billions more annually). Currently the Xbox is considered cutting-edge and competes directly with Sony’s similarly superb Playstation, but just lately the stakes were increased with Microsoft’s introduction of its Kinect technology that promises to do away with game controllers altogether, using the player’s own body movements to direct all onscreen actions. The highly leading-edge motion-detection technology makes it possible to scan even facial gestures!

Agents for Life

Being an “agent” ordinarily refers to commissioned sales, and selling is one of the most difficult jobs to be found anywhere – and anytime – but what about as a career? Most peopel would only burn out, but the successful ones tend to move into more managerial sorts of positions, which explains how they are able to make an actual career out of sales. After all, it’s tough living on commission-only your whole life, especially at the lower end of things where one is doing showroom sales of items less than ten grand apiece!

Then there are people like Zalman Silber who are able to parlay their talent for sales into serial entrepreneurship. In fact, selling is the lifeblood of any business, so in a way it’s no surprise that successful salesmen and women should be able to combine that skill with more managerial ones to create their own companies.

But what is this mysterious art of selling that’s so crucial to any enterprise? Is it merely a matter of horse-feathering one’s way through a potential customer’s defenses? Do successful salesmen and women lie better than most? What’s the fine line between representing your product or service positively and doing whatever it takes to make your monthly, weekly, daily, or even hourly quota?

Believe it or not, it’s really a lot like the dating game, and it’s no secret that successful sellers – “agents,” if you prefer – also tend to be quite the Casanovas (and whatever is the equivalent term for females). After all, successful selling is nothing more than successful seduction.

Not the way a Zalman Silber would put it, in all probability, but it’s possible for people to be very good at something and yet not know exactly why. And the truth is that the same thing which makes one successful at sales is precisely what makes one successful at finding lovers.

It’s all about getting enough information. Think about it. If you absolutely knew that someone wasn’t interested in you – that there would be no chance in hell – would you still waste your time? Obviously not. So the key, whether at dating or selling a product or service, is to get as much information as possible. It is, in other words, a matter of intelligence (pun intended!)….

But we are not telepathic or clairvoyant, of course, so the only way to find out is to observe. To really listen. And to ask the right questions – or use the right pick-up lines.

By “right pick-up lines” it isn’t meant some magical quip that will easily open the lady’s heart (and legs!) but questions – or even non-interrogative statements – that allow you to plumb her mind, her soul. The goal is to find out what she wants, and what she’s willing to settle for – to find out what her needs are, and how much she’s willing to pay.

Just like with a prospective customer.
